A powerful earthquake shook the town of L’Aquila leaving more than 90 dead and hundreds injured and homeless. Huge buildings collapsed leaving many trapped under heavy concrete in this medieval town. Many architectural heritage buildings and churches have also been damaged. President Silvio Berlusconi has declared a state of emergency.
